Lose your Keys?...they're in the Word! |
|
Have you ever been running late for work or some other important engagement, and right when you have finally gotten yourself together (or so you feel) and you can't seem to find your car keys? You search throughout the house, you try to remember the last place that you laid them, you feel somewhat of a panic attack as time continues to slip into the future; in the short span of a few minutes you have experienced just about every emotion known to man?
Then finally, you reach into your pant pocket or purse and... there they are; right where you placed them... your keys! It wasn't that they were ever lost. They were right there all the time but you didn't realize it at the time you needed them. You had prepared and "gotten yourself" ready for work or your engagement but even in "your" best of preparations...you still were:
Well, this is a simple illustration of how the rigors, and routines of this life can be at times, and is for many. There are so many things that we plan for and yet, so many things that we miss that are right there under our nose. God has a plan for each of us and His plan is best and was first! He never intended for us to "get ourselves" together, except in the area of choosing His Son, Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. God has been there watching us as we have experienced various ranges of emotion, setbacks, reversals, misunderstandings, and misgivings; regret, heartache and heartbreak. Undoubtedly, you have heard that God loves you, and it's all in the Word of God but often times, even in looking "at" the Word of God, we can miss seeing "into" the Word of God.
Just like in preparing for work or some other important engagement, you find yourself running late for whatever reason: to make matters worse, you can't find your keys. You know that they have to be in the house somewhere because you recently used them. Well, in reading and studying the Word of God we often times look all throughout the Bible and yet, we can't seem to find "The Keys of Life."
It's not that they aren't there, but we get so inundated with information that we begin to overlook the most important areas. Often times we begin to look for information to get us out of a current trouble or situation; information to debate over at the next Bible Study; information to "set" straight, Brother A or Sister B; information overload is certain to be lurking behind the next passage. Information is ok in proper application. When calling 411 for a number, you receive "information" but you still have to make the call. This is how the word of God is...you still have to make the call (operate in obedience to the Word).
However, a consistent plan of study, and devotion; a proper persistent plan of preparation to meet God in His Word will always ensure that you find your keys! More importantly you'll find GOD! Finding God, and more of His plan for your life is the TRUE KEYS of Life. In the books of Genesis and John, is found a very important beginning for beginning. Consider the first three words in each; "In the Beginning God." (Gen 1:1a) and (John 1:1) "In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (John 1:1) These passages help us to see that the keys are right there all the time.
Get into the Word of God, and you'll find God every time. You'll never miss your most important engagements, and you'll be there on time, every time! You may still experience a wide variety of emotions. Setbacks, reversals and the like may still come but you'll find keys that will get you off and running with Positive, Powerful, Resolution. Remember the words of God manifested in the flesh (Jesus Christ). John 5:39, "You search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of me." The Word of God is a Lamp, and a Light that illuminates the right paths along life's highways and byways.
Let your past experiences usher you into the knowledge that we are not the best engineers of our lives. When we remove our plans, and instill God's Perfect Plan of Redemption and Salvation into our lives, the anxiety filled search for what is already there... will cease.
I pray that you find your keys! Let That Marinate! Pastor Jerome A. Rogers, Sr. |
